Introduction/General
The author was of the idea that when elephant domesticated and trained is an extremely useful animal. The method of catching can be broadly divided into two; (i) catching individual elephants by noosing them in the open forest called mela shikar and (ii) by driving a whole herd of elephants into a properly constructed stockade and then noosing them one by one within the stockade called the kheda. The papers gives the detailed study of elephant catching in Southern India,Chittagong and in North Bengal and Upper Assam.
