Abstract/Summary
Introduction/General
Many instances might be quoted throughout history, in which destruction of forests has converted rich and fertile lands into barren deserts, and the protection or creation of forests has rendered uninhabitable areas habitable. Due to the benefits which agriculture derives from it, forestry is termed the handmaid of agriculture. Interdependence of agriculture and forestry may be illustrated in respect of the Requirements of forest produce, Equalization of distribution of work, Forest industries, Protection forests, Shifting cultivation. Agriculture in Pakistan is in dire need of the assistance of forestry, but before forestry can be of any real help it needs reorganization and development. It will not be easy to achieve this, but given the national will and determination we should succeed in our effort. National prosperity and welfare are so largely dependent upon forest development, that the consequences of neglect will be disastrous for Pakistan’s economic development.
