Abstract/Summary Introduction/General |
Fomes annosus (Fr.) Cke., is a serious root-rot fungus, widely distributed in all parts of the world, and is found on a large variety of hosts, both coniferous and hardwoods. In the Murree Hills it seems to have been recorded for the first time, and has been found to cause serious decay in the roots and wood in the stem, but does not appear to be a serious parasite. Some fifty trees were sound affected in an area of about 25 square miles. It generally attacks through wounds on the exposed roots and from there advances into the stem. Alkaline soil seems to retard its activity. |
