Title The Vegetation of the Water Logged Areas of District Sheikhupura of Punjab.
Author(s) Ikram Ilahi Chaudhri,
Designation Botanical Survey of Medicinal Plants, Abbottabad.
Abstract/Summary
Introduction/General
Large tracts of land lying between the rivers, Ravi and Chenab in the Punjab have become water logged as a result of construction of canals in the areas. With the rise of water table the salts tend to accumulate at the surface and this has resulted in the deterioration of the top soil. Thus original vegetation had been faced with unfavorable conditions of growth and the plants suited to the new conditions had started colonizing these areas. The study of the vegetation was restricted to the areas bordering the Lahore-Sargodha Road between the river Ravi and the Upper Gugera Branch of the Lower Chenab Canal in the Sheikhupura district of Punjab. In addition to this Chakanwali, Sangla Hill and Kala Shah Kaku were also visited to have a general picture of the vegetation of adjoining areas. Only the vegetation of the areas not under cultivation was studied.
