Introduction/General
The tuberous root Dioscorea deltoideaWall.,is used medicinally by the local people in Murree Hills and the neighborhood. About one tola of expressed juice of the rootstock is given early in the morning before breakfast, and after a few hours a severe pain is felt in the belly and all intestinal worms such as the round worms, the tape worms, the thread worms and the hook worms are expelled. This use of Dioscorea deltoidea well, does not appear to be mentioned in the literature. It is regarded dangerous on account of severe pain, but it might be possible to alleviate this in combination with suitable antispasmodics.
